Pregnant woman attempts suicide in Kubwa

It was a dramatic last Tuesday as a 19-year-old woman attempted taking her own life when she allegedly had a misunderstanding with her lover in Byazhin, Kubwa, Abuja.
The lady simply identified as Queen, allegedly stabbed herself twice with a knife before she was rescued by the lover, a commercial motorcyclist.

It was learnt that the cyclist and his lover had been living together for some time during which she became pregnant.
A source said the woman, who was no longer enjoying the relationship, contemplated going back to her parents in Benue State but had to stay back as they would not accept her with the pregnancy.
The source said the woman had severally accused the lover of not providing enough money for their feeding, thereby forcing her to regularly collect some food items from a neighbor on credit.

“Whenever I come back, the man will confront me that my girl owed him money. The worst part is that the amount he always said my girl is owing would triple what she tells me when I ask her,” the source quoted the lover as saying.
The source added that the man, who could no longer condone the embarrassment, beat her up after several warnings to desist from borrowing.

“It was while he was beating her that the woman dashed into the kitchen and took a knife with which she stabbed herself, before the lover intervened,” the source added.
The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, who confirmed the incident said “the parents of both parties have been given the opportunity to reconcile their children.”
