22-year-old man jailed 1year for stealing motorcycle

An Abuja Grade One Area Court sitting in Karmo has sentenced a 22 year old man, Emmanuel Joseph to one year imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a motorcycle at Utako area, of the FCT.

Emmanuel Joseph who is a resident of Garki Area 1 by old secretariat was arraigned alongside one Friday Gabriel of Jabi Gararge on two count charges for joint act and theft contrary to sections 79 and 287 of the penal code.

Friday Gabriel however denied the charges and was released on bail by the presiding Judge, Sadiq Abubakar and had his case adjourned till November 10th while Joseph got one year sentence following his guilty plea.

The prosecuting counsel, A.Z. Dalhatu told the court that crime was committed on Friday, October 7.

He said the complainant, SGT. Jibrin Haruna who is a police officer with Utako police division reported at Utako police station that the duo formed common intention and dishonestly stole his Boxer Bajaj motorcycle valued at N180,000.

He said the motorcycle was stolen from where it was parked opposite DSS quarters in Utako district of the FCT.

He maintained that the accused persons disappeared with the said motorcycle to unknown destination before they were arrested by the police.

He added that during police investigation, they both confessed to the crime and the said motorcycle was recovered from them.

Friday Gabriel was however granted bail in the sum of N50,000.
