Abaji council to distribute free waste bins

Head of Department of Environmental Sanitation in charge of Abaji Area Council, Alh. Yusuf Simbabi, has revealed that the council would soon distribute free waste bins to residents with a view to tackling the menace of indiscriminate refuse dump in the area.

He told The Abuja Inquirer that the initiative is a pet project of the chairman, Hon. Abdulrahaman Ajiya, aimed at encouraging the residents to cultivate the habit of good hygiene.

The HOD tasked the people of Abaji and environs against indiscriminate refuse dump, noting that heath officers would continue to inspect houses, shops and offices to educate residents as well as enforcing environmental laws.

Simbabi also called on households, and traders to always keep their environment clean, just as he warned that the department would leave no stone unturned to penalise violators of environmental laws of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He tasked the residents to use this period of dry season to clean up blocked drainages and culverts before rainy season set in, noting that the act would in no small measure remain one of the remedies to erosion control.
