UNIABUJA loses former VC

A one-time Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Joseph Nwafor Nwabueze, is dead.

Nwabueze’s death was announced by the university in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the institution, Mr. Waziri Garba.

The university said Nwabueze was a professor of Inorganic Chemistry with the Department of Chemistry. He joined the service of University of Abuja from Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye, as Lecturer 1 in 1990 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2001.

The late Nwabueze was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, in 2009, and acted as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja briefly in 2009 during a leadership transition period at the institution.

Meanwhile, the University of Abuja Alumni Association has condoled with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Michael U. Adikwu on the demise of the Late Professor Nwabueze.

National President of the association, Mr. Musa Thomas, said in a statement that the death of Professor Nwabueze had created a void in the academic community which would be difficult to fill.
