Afegbua: A tale of a Buhari ‘supporter’

Afegbua: A tale of a Buhari ‘supporter’

Indeed, life is full of twists and turns, bends and curves. Only a few weeks ago, Kassim Afegbua was a toast of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Afegbua, a former commissioner in Edo state under the Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole, could not broker any thought capable of casting the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari in bad light.

But like in all things, change happened and Afegbua, the once-upon rabid supporter and attack lynchpin of the APC found himself lampooning Buhari and the APC.

The matter was to come to a head when Afegbua as spokesman to former military president Ibrahim Babangida, issued a startling rebuke on Buhari.

The statement issued by Afegbua practically told Buhari to retire to Daura in 2019 as he has failed on all fronts.

No sooner had the statement hit various news portals that the police declared Afegbua wanted for inciting the public and forgery and was asked to turn himself in.

As a law abiding citizen, Afegbua turned himself in to the police who laughed over the matter given the public outcry.

But if he thought his ‘wahala’ was over, he was mistaken. The next was the State Security Service, SSS, that ordered him to report. Once again, Afegbua did. But this time, he felt the full weight of state apparatus as he was made to write a statement and surrender a whole lot more.

Leaving the SSS, Afegbua raised the alarm over alleged threat to his life since issuing a statement on behalf of his principal against President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Let me state at this point that my life is in danger as we speak. In the last six days, I have gone through traumatic experience when I was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police. By the strength of that unprofessional declaration, I was treated like a common criminal and fugitive until I showed up at the Police Headquarters Abuja to physically present myself. After what the Police termed a no case issue, they were apologetic and I took my leave. In the evening of that day, Wednesday 7th February, 2018 I got a phone call inviting me to the Headquarters of the Directorate of State Security (DSS).”

Now, Afegbua sings a different tune and his tale is like that of two cities.

Bello: What manner of governor?

The governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, is a man with a vaunting sense of self. The only problem is that he does not know he is a clown in power.

Since he became a governor through the backdoor benefitting from the death of the rightful occupant, Abubakar Audu, he has not ceased to amaze people of the state and Nigerians in general to his poor reasoning.

Last week, the ‘Governor By Mistake,’ according to some of his traducers was at his clowning when he alleged that those angry with President Muhammadu Buhari are corrupt politicians who longer have looted funds to pay tithe.

Imagine the perfidious thought! To even consider that the governor made the out-of-point comment after a visit of Catholic bishops to the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday, is galling enough.

So, does Bello not know of the thousands, perhaps, millions of ordinary Nigerians whose lives have been upended by this regime and who moan the tragedy that Buhari has become?

How can Bello explain away the several corruption cases that have been deodorized, apologies to Senator Shehu Sani.

Is it the corrupt people that have shielded the Grasscutter-in-Chief of the Federation, Babachir Lawal? Is it corrupt Nigerians that brought Abdulrasheed Maina back from Dubai? Is it corrupt Nigerians that have not acted on the prosecution of the OsborneTower loot?

It is about time that Governor Bello is reminded that Kogi is yet to see any tangible development and that he is not the spokesperson of President Buhari.

It would do well for him to stay in Lokoja and concentrate on paying workers their earned pay while administering the state he has been fortunate to preside over.

Innoson not so innocent?

It seems the trouble of Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson Motors Limited, is just about getting intriguing as Justice Mojisola Dada, ordered for his arrest last week.

The judge sitting in Lagos on Friday ordered the arrest of the Anambra state born industrialist, over his failure to appear before it and face trial.

The judge while giving the order said Chukwuma should be arrested and brought to court on March 1, the next adjourned date.

The allegation is that Mr. Chukwuma misrepresented himself and his company to clear a container of spare parts and motorcycles from China belonging to GTBank, when he was not authorized to do so.

Late last year, the matter had reared its ugly head when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested the businessman at his Enugu residence in a Gestapo manner.

The backlash was instant and riveting as Igbo as never seen in a long while mobilized to close their accounts with the bank.

With the latest development, questions are being asked if Innoson is actually innocent of the forgery charge or it is just one of the many dramas that fit into the conspiracy theory of Igbo being hunted.

Well, as the days tail into weeks and to March 12, the picture will be clearer if Mr. Chukwuma will be arrested and dragged before the judge.

For now, we wait!
