INEC insists on 2010 electoral procedure

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has stated that it is going to proceed with the conduct of elections as stipulated in the Electoral 2010 as amended, despite the National Assembly insisting on having it in a different sequence.

Recall that the two chambers of the National Assembly had passed a bill altering the order of the elections.

In the new proposed arrangement, the presidential election will now come last after the National Assembly and state elections.

At the quarterly media interactive forum, the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, insisted that the current timetable was drawn based on the electoral act as amended and would suffice until there is a Presidential ascent on the new alterations.

Yakubu also expressed worry over the increasing rate of vote buying and parties outrageous expenditure during elections disclosing that the commission was working with EFCC to check the two phenomena.
