FCT science, tech dept harnesses young potential

The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello, has reiterated resolve to ensure greater involvement of youth in science and technology for the advancement of the society. 

Bello made this point while declaring open the 4th edition of FCT Science and Technology, FASTECH. 

The program which was tagged, "Technology and society in the 21st century ", took place at the FCTA Department of Science and Technology project exhibition, FASTECH, last week. 

According to him, the FCT Administration remains unwavering towards harnessing the economic and scientific potential of the science and technology sector. 

Earlier, the FCTA Secretary for Education, Senator Isa Maina, stated that, "FASTECH is a platform designed to identify and bring together all stakeholders including public and private artisans and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services as well as harness the economic and scientific potential of the science and technology sector". 

He added that it is a gathering aimed at showcasing and promoting the patronage of local inventions that can be applied for everyday living. 

"FASTECH 2018 is going to examine the relationship between the ordinary man and the use of technology and will also examine relevant areas of transfer of knowledge, entrepreneurs, adaptation of technology production of scientific and technological goods, herbal products as well as extension services", he assured. 

In her address, Acting Director, Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Ibrahim Christiana, said purpose of the event is to showcase the innovations from schools and stakeholders in science and technology. 

She urged stakeholders to actively participate in the exhibition, as it is a rare opportunity for all to see in practical terms the creativity in Nigerian scientists, fabricators, inventors, which will impact positively in the economy. 

One of the exhibitors, Adabayo Israel from Government secondary school Bwari stated that, "our project is a waste water reclination plant for sewage with the aim of recycling sewage water and alongside getting essential benefits like organic fertilizers, bio gas and soaps".
