Abuja rail project hits 99% completion -Opeifa
The Secretary of Transportation Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, has revealed that the Abuja Light Rail project has reached 99 percent completion.
Opeifa, who disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Transportation Secretariat last week, also stated that the rail project started 2007, and when the administration came into power the rail was about 58 percent completed.
The secretary, who refused to disclose the official commissioning date, however, assured that the project will soon be ready for commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Opeifa stated that the core mandate is to improve the standard of living in the residents and for them to have their own opinion to use either rail or drive on the road.
Speaking on the issue of private cars being used for business purposes, he asured that all unpainted cars will be phased out and only painted taxis will be allowed to function in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, "red plate number and ID will be made available for taxi drivers so that we can pull the owners out when they go wrong".
He added that air-conditioners will be installed in taxes for the comfort of the residents of the FCT saying, "people can chose to put on the AC or not".
