Police say its activities remain in public domain

The FCT Police command has refuted claims that it has stopped the monthly publication of crime statistics, stating that its activities are in the public domain.

Command Public Relations officer, Manza Anjuguri, said that the monthly news bulletin has remained in publication and circulation and urged members of the public to avail themselves of information in the bulletin which bothers on police activities.

Speaking to our correspondent, Manza noted that the command operates an active website and prompt emergency numbers which according to him should be on the contact list of every resident.

According to him, the police has one central news bulletin that carries reports of all police commands in the country, adding that the FCT command makes its contribution to the national news bulletin monthly.

While reacting to a report on the rising rate of crime in the FCT, Manza noted that the issue of security remains a collective effort but the police on its part will not relent in its effort to ensure the safety of citizens.

“If you move around the FCT at night, you are sure to meet a police check point for stop and search, we are not just there for the face value, we are there for business and I must tell you that we have made lots of arrest through our night search. We have recovered arms and stolen items and we have also intensified patrol within and around estates.

“Let me add that we enjoin all citizens to have our telephone emergency numbers on their contact list which is active and prompt, because as citizens we equally have a role to play by being security conscious.

“We also advice private estate owners to engage the services of private security outfits to complement our efforts who will man and manage the security in the estate, as we on our side continue with our consistent patrol across the FCT,” the police spokesperson said.

“We have outpost in some estates where we have deployed our men to manage such outpost as they are 24hours on ground to provide security both plain and uniformed officers and I must say that crime is on the decline in the FCT” he said
