To continue to showcase the various potential of students in public schools in FCT, a non-governmental organization, Visola Foundation, has selected 567 female students from 15 Senior Secondary Schools in FCT for the end of the year Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, club competition.

Addressing the girls before the competition, the acting chairman and board member 1 of FCT Secondary Education Board, Mr. Sunny Moniedafe, said the importance of STEM in solving problems cannot be overemphasized, hence the board’s readiness to collaborate with various profitable  non-governmental organizations that will enhance the teaching and learning.

Moniedafe explained that, the STEM Girls club competition will bring out their innate abilities against all odds in society and develop their logical, analytical and synthetic reasoning skills which will enhance the girls’ academic performance.

He added that STEM will help the girls’ technological competence for entrepreneurship and self-reliance, thereby adding value to economic development.

The board member who was full of commendation for the organizers, however, advocated for such gesture to be extended to the boy-child in order to balance the gender inequality and continue to create healthy competition among girls and boys.

Speaking in the same vein, the acting director who is also the secretary, Mrs. Nanre Emeje, advised the girls to focus on their God-given talents and engage in relevant research that will further enhance their abilities for greater future.

On their part, the Visola Foundation Programme anchored by Mr. Isreal Oladejo said the foundation’s objective among others is to bridge the existing wide gap between the girl-child and boy-child in science based courses and careers, adding that there are more boys in science oriented courses than the girls probably due to fear and lack of orientation.
