Group, traditional chief, politicians sue for peace in Bwari

Ahead of 2019 general elections, the founder of Great Achievers Award and convener of "I Stand for Peace Road Walk", Comrade John Anyebe, has tasked youths in Bwari area council to embrace peace and shun violence in the forthcoming general elections in the country.

He made the call in Bwari during a road walk show to sensitize youths on the danger of violence during and after elections, noting that youths in Nigeria have been misled as they are used for political violence and various levels of criminalities instead of being used as agents of positive change.

According to him, “We started this peace campaign from Bwari Area Council because of what happened here last December and we intend to use this place as a pilot scheme to reach other area councils and we call on our royal chiefs to take the lead by standing with us in this campaign for peace. To all youths, I charge you to shun every call to violence from any politician, choose to be an ambassador and an advocate of peace".

Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Zaka Nehemiah, the co-founder of "I Stand for Peace Road Walk", declared that “we are advocates and ambassadors of peace. Peace is priceless and we are calling on all politicians, royal chiefs, and every elders in Nigeria to stop using the youths for their personal political gains to perpetuate violence in Nigeria. Stop killing our dreams and stop destroying our future”.

On his part, the Sarkin Bwari, Alhaji Awwal Musa Ijakoro, also emphasized the need for peace in any environment saying, "without peace there cannot be progress and I am appealing to the youths, to keep away from violence. We see the efforts of the Minister of the FCT at maintaining peace in Bwari and I want to use this medium to call on him to do more to empower the youths with more jobs and businesses so as to keep them off the path of political violence, criminality and drug abuse".

Ijakoro also stressed that peace is the only prerequisite to the growth and development of any society, while assuring that the violence that rocked Bwari area council last December will not occur again.

Speaking earlier, the vice chairman Bwari area council, Ahmed Nagimba, who represented the chairman of the council, Hon Musa Dikko, enumerated efforts of the council in the areas peace building and security.

He said; “The council chairman has been doing a lot towards ensuring a peaceful coexistence in Bwari. He has scheduled a monthly meeting for the two royal fathers in Bwari and the various security agencies come together to discuss modalities of ensuring peace and security.”
