AMMC clampdown on illegal dumpsite in Maitama

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, AMMC, has commenced clampdown on illegal dumping of waste in Maitama district, as part of effort towards preventing flooding and erosion.

AMMC officials accompanied by a joint team of security personnel had stormed and barricaded an illegal building material dumpsite at a reserved green area, located near a river bank in Maitama.

Speaking with journalists during the visit to the site, coordinator AMMC, Umar Shuaibu, warned that developers and residents engaged in indiscriminate dumping of waste risk immediate prosecution.

Shuaibu reiterated that the council is committed to ensuring adequate protection of the river channels and greener areas in FCT.

The AMMC boss stressed that constant monitoring will be carried out to ensure the area is protected from such illegal activities.
