VIO embarks on ‘ember months’ rally in Kuje

Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, popularly known as VIO, has embarked on rallies in Kuje motor parks with a view to sensitizing drivers on the need to abide by traffic rules and regulations at the ‘ember’ period.

The area commander in charge of the area, Mr. Samuel Osim, explained that the rallies which were held in Wowo motor parks, A.A Rano and Total filing station motor park has attendance of members of Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and residents of the area.

He noted that the essence of the campaign was to educate motorists on the need to update their papers, obtain genuine driver's licence as well as install good tyres, even as he implored drivers to acquire fire extinguisher and caution sign.

Osim appealed to drivers to pay priority attention to tyres especially during the dry season, noting that tyres worn-out quickly during the dry season than the rainy season, just as he called on commercial drivers to desist using rickety vehicles.

The Kuje VIO boss tasked motorists using old plate numbers to obtain new ones, noting that at present DRTS commenced enforcement against old plate numbers, but has given a grace period to those whose papers have not expired to obtain the new plate number.

He stressed the commitment of his leadership to ensure free flow of traffic during peak hour, just as he warned the motorists to shun parking cars along both side of the road thereby causing traffic congestion.
