NASENI hopes to increase IGR via presidential order

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure is optimistic that the Executive Order Five, when finally implemented, will revolutionize activities of the agency and steer more revenue to it.

Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NASENI, Prof Mohammed Haruna, while lamenting the lack of patronage of the agency’s products from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, said the presidential order will mandate patronage of locally produced goods, and revolutionise the country’s economy.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in February 2018, signed the Executive Order Number 5 to improve local content in public procurement with science, engineering and technology components.

Haruna who spoke with journalists after receiving an award of Excellence and Labour Friendliness from the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions of NASENI, said the Executive Order would boost industrialisation and thereby increase the country’s GDP.

Speaking specifically on NASENI, the EVC said many MDAs had been ignoring its products in the past, adding that with the implementation of the presidential order, government agencies who prefer purchasing goods and services from abroad would be restrained.

Some of the products of the organisation include solar panels produced by one of the centres of the agency as well as electronics and science kits for secondary schools.
