Sallah: NSCDC beef up security with 4,000 personnel
As part of measures to beef up security before, during and after Sallah celebration in Abuja, the FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have deployed 4,000 personnel to the streets.
This, the corps said will ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the capital city would be adequately covered, so as to have a crime free Sallah celebration.
According to the, the FCT Commandant of NSCDC, Patrick Ukpan, the personnel would be drawn from all formations of the corps in the territory, including the under- cover, the conflict management unit, disaster management unit, anti-vandals, and the armed squad personnel amongst others.
Ukpan stressed that the special rules of engagement will be reeled out to the NSCDC personnel for the attainment of the objective of their deployment.
"All the nooks and crannies of the capital would be adequately covered, leaving no place uncovered. And paying special attention to some identified flash points like the market places, motor parks, fun parks, prayer grounds and borders, because of high convergence of people in these areas during the period.
"Also, other areas to be beefed up are critical infrastructures in the state because of their socio-economic importance like telecommunication masts, PHCN/IBEDC cables and installations, water board, essential government buildings, among others. 24 hours surveillance and patrol teams would be intensified in these areas," he said.
The FCT- NSCDC boss adds:" The command is aware of some criminally- minded people who might want to perpetrate crimes because of the busy nature of the period hence, the need to beef-up security to forestall any likely security breach."
