NUC orders shutdown of three illegal universities

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has ordered three illegal degree-awarding universities recently uncovered to immediately shutdown their activities.

According to advertisements placed on some national dailies, last week, the commission said the proprietors and of the illegal degree mills must close down the institutions within 30 days.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all the three institutions above are not known to the National Universities Commission which is the sole regulatory agency for all categories of degree-awarding institutions in Nigeria and any Cross Border education model operating in Nigeria,” it said.

The advert which was signed by NUC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Yakassai, warned members of the public that all certificates obtained from the illegal institutions will not be recognised or accepted in Nigeria for employment or further studies.

NUC also directed the illegal institutions to submit their notice of compliance within the stated period or face the consequences of their illegal operation.

The illegal institutions are Nobel International Business School located in Lagos State; Copperstone University, UPTA, USA, operating in Bayelsa State; and Pathfinder University, Jos.
