Kuje to commence tree planting campaign

As part of measures to tackle climate change, the Head of Department of Environmental Sanitation in charge of Kuje area council, Mr. Nwanna Timothy, has given indication that the department would soon embark on tree planting campaign in the area.

The environmental health officer who stated this in a chat with The Abuja Inquirer when he assumed office noted that the sensitisation has become necessary in view of the global climate change and it will discourage people from dumping refuse into the drainage system.

He pointed out that the advocacy campaign would equally address issues such as deforestation, global warming, flooding as well as erosion control.

Timothy appealed to the residents to dump their waste at the designated areas to enable the department evacuate it to the final dump sites.

The HOD frowned at the negative attitude of members of the public towards sanitation, just as he noted that very soon the department would establish mobile court to try offenders.

He reiterated commitment to sustain the campaign against indiscriminate refuse dump in Kuje and environs such as littering the streets, defacing the environment and blocking the drainage and canals in the area.

The Kuje health expert cautioned residents to shun violations of FCT environmental laws, even as he implored them to avoid being unfriendly to the environment.
