STDD wants upgrade of Kwaita-Yebu road in 2020 budget

The Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD, is seeking approval for the upgrading of the Kwaita- Yebu road to be included in the 2020 statutory budget.

According to the STDD Director, Engr. Felix Nwankwo, an upgrade of the 30km secondary road will prolong its life span and provide succour for residents of Kuje area council.

Nwankwo was responding to series of complaints from the Kuje residents over the deplorable state of the road, stated that road was awarded in 2004 to a local Contractor Messer’s Abdek with a finishing of surface dressing and one number bridge, but stopping at Yebu, which is a total length of 25km.

He further explained that the contractor completed some section of the road but because the finished surface dressed road has a life span of 10 years, most of the completed section have been washed out including earthwork.

He said, “As soon as there is an approval of its inclusion on 2020 budget by the National Assembly, the project will be procured and awarded to a contractor who will handle it.

“The road upon completion after the upgrading will be Asphaltic with concrete lined drain at important locations which has a longer life span.”

The STDD boss assured that the department will intensify construction and upgrading of rural roads within the Territory.

He therefore reiterated that the FCT Administration is very much aware of the state of the roads; and is also very concerned about the satellite towns’ infrastructure and will do everything possible to ensure that they receive the necessary attention they deserve.
