FCT schools resume for new academic year

Public senior and junior secondary schools across the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have resumed for the 2019/2020 academic calendar.

Our correspondent who visited Government Secondary School, GSS, Hajj camp Gwagwalada, Government Secondary School, GSS, Tunganmaje, Junior Secondary School, JSS, Gwagwalada and Junior Secondary School, JSS, Tunganmaje reported that academic activities have commenced during the first week in accordance with the FCT education policy.

Speaking to The Abuja Inquirer, a staff at GSS Gwagwalada, who pleaded anonymity, who conducted our correspondent round the school premises said that the principal of the school had engaged the services of labourers to keep the school compound clean.

He said that sixty percent of the student population had attended classes as well as written their resumption test to serve as motivation to others.

While at GSS Tunganmaje, a parent, Mr. Dantani Gaius, applauded the authorities of the school for conducting staff meeting in preparation for the resumption even as he encouraged principal of the school to sustain the gesture with a view to promoting quality teaching and learning in the school.

On their part, acting principal of JSS Gwagwalada, Patricia Andrew, and JSS Tunganmaje, Alh. Muhammed Yakubu, respectively, lauded the management of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, UBEB, for providing necessary tools for effective teaching and learning.

The principals expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of the students and staff just as they tasked parents to purchase text books for their wards as well as to encourage them to attend extra mural classes.
