FCT, two others commended for school census status
The Federal Capital Territory along with two other states have been applauded for their active participation and prompt presentation of their Annual School Census implementation status.
The commendation was given during the Third Annual National Conference on Education Management Information System, EMIS, held in Benue State.
Speaking at the conference, the Director, Department of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Sani Ladan said, the secretariat has had robust sensitization and advocacy programmes to enlighten the Six Area Councils on the activities of EMIS and National Education Information System, NEMIS.
The Director explained that, since the flagged off of the exercise in FCT, the Department has continue to engaged in various activities geared towards the success of the Annual School Census Exercise.
He said the secretariat has held deliberations with several stakeholders as well as building capacity of various officers who were to be on the field and involved in the collection of credible, reliable and implementable data for the 2018/19 Annual School Census Exercise.
He added that the commitment of stakeholders and synergy is very important in the collection of credible data for sustainable evidence based planning and for National and Global reporting.
Ladan commended the FCT Administration for continuous support, while assuring that his department will continue to intensify efforts to deliver on its mandates in FCT.
The conference urged parastatals of the Federal Ministry, states and the FCT to intensify efforts in the implementation of NEMIS conference decisions. Stakeholders were also asked to build capacity of Head Teachers/Principals and Proprietors of private schools as well as quality assurance officers on record keeping and data collection, while also ensuring that all EMIS desks are equipped with modern equipment to be used for data management among others.
