DRTS launches special operation on rickety vehicles

Efforts by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, to eliminate rickety vehicles on FCT roads have been yielding positive results, the area commander of Lugbe, Mukhtar Muhammad, has said.

He made this known in a chat with our correspondent on the ongoing ‘Operation Velvet’ to enforce the directive of the FCT minister. Malam Muhammad Bello, against rickety vehicles in the territory.

Muhammad revealed that hundreds of rickety vehicles have been apprehended during the ongoing operation even as he called on offenders to cooperate with patrol officers.

The area commander implored motorists to always ensure they maintain their vehicles to avoid arrest just as he tasked drivers to visit any VIO computerised inspection office for maintenance.

Muhammad also warned Motorists against wrong parking along the shoulders of the high way causing unnecessary traffic grid lock noting DRTS would not fold arms to allow motorists violating traffic rules in Lugbe.

The area commander reiterated his commitment to the ministerial task team on the decongestion of traffic and further enjoined motorists plying the Umar Yar'adua expressway to exercise caution.
