UBEC pledges total compliance with UBE financial rules
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, has reiterated the commission’s resolve to ensure total compliance with stipulated rules and regulations that guide the day-to-day UBE financial operations.
Bobboyi made the commitment at a 4-day training for the commission’s finance and accounts personnel, SUBEB directors of finance, heads of internal audit and UBE account desk officers on the successful implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards, IPSAS, in Akwanga, Nasarawa state.
The UBEC boss urged states to support UBEC’s effort in that direction, while expressing optimism that UBEC and state Universal Basic Education Boards, SUBEBs, would henceforth adopt and ensure uniformity in accounting processes in basic education delivery.
Represented by UBEC Director, Administration and Supplies, Rev. Edwin Musa Jarumai, he noted that the objective of conducting the training was to acquaint participants with the rules and procedures for effective financial transactions under the UBE programme.
He highlighted the various accounting policies, procedures and principles to be followed by accounts officers in the basic education sub-sector as well as the core components of the IPSAS Manual.
Earlier, UBEC Director, Finance and Accounts, Sir Michael Aule, emphasized the importance of promoting transparency, accountability, probity and efficiency in the management of federal government-UBE intervention fund.
Aule further drew attention to the need for UBEC and SUBEB personnel saddled with accounting and audit responsibilities to avail themselves of the opportunity to improve their capacity towards improving accounting procedures in all transactions at all levels of UBE delivery.
About 135 participants drawn from the 36 states and FCT took part in the training with Representatives from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, Accounts and Audit professional bodies.
