ASUU Uniabuja chapter moves to honour retiring professors

The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, UniAbuja chapter, Dr. Umar Kasim, has given indication that the union would together with the management of the university honour retiring professors.

He disclosed this at a book launch in honour of five retiring professors in the Faculty of Education titled "A Discourse On Educational Issues: FESTSCHRIFT".

He applauded the dean of the faculty for initiating the idea for the university to recognize the labour offered by professors for mentorship.

The chairman noted that this singular act motivated the leadership of the union to see the need to go into partnership with the management of the institution.

Kasim used the opportunity to present a symbol to three outstanding professors; Prof. Appolonia Okwudishu, Prof. Gidado Tahir and Prof. Angela Okatahi, to serve as motivation to others in the institution.

Also lending his voice, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Musa Maisamari, said the faculty has 25 professors just as he told the retirees that the institution would be soliciting for their services when the need arises.

Maisamari said the Faculty of Education would continue to play a leading role in the area of mentoring  and producing quality teachers.

Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Prof. Appolonia Okwudishu appreciated the giant strides of the leadership of the faculty to organise the befitting ceremony for them, noting the event was the first of its kind in the history of the university.
