FCT NNANM harps on values of gender equality

Members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, FCT chapter have joined their counterparts to celebrate the International Women's Day in Gwagwalada.

Speaking at the event, the FCT chairperson of the association, Comrade Deborah Yusuf, said the theme of this year’s event, " I am Generation Equality: Realising Women's Rights," was insightful as despite unprecedented advances, no country was yet to achieve gender equality.

Yusuf enjoined women folk to rise to the challenges of using the occasion to mobilise global action to achieve gender equality and human rights of all women and girls.

The chairperson noted that gender -based violence remains one of the most tolerated violations of workers' human rights just as she said that 35% women above the age of 15 have experienced sexual or physical violence at home, in their community or in the workplace.

"We want equality, feminist leadership. Small actions can have big impacts in making this vision a reality. On International Women's Day, we all should be part of this movement, "she added.
