FCTA uncovers falsification of building plans in Katampe

The Director, Development Control Department of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, AMMC, Tpl. Muktar Galadima has bemoaned the alleged falsification of critical information on approved building plans for some plots in Katampe Extension, one of the highbrow areas of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

 

 

 

 

 

Galadima, who made this assertion, during a mild demolition exercise in Katampe, disclosed that the department had found out approvals granted for low density residential developments have been illegally changed to medium and high density developments.

 

 

 

He added that construction activities at the two plots in question have been stopped, pending conclusion of investigation into the alleged case of forgery and falsification of building plans.

 

 

 

According to him, "Approval was given for development of low density residential buildings at plots 279 and plot 280 Katampe Extension, Abuja. But, now they doubled the approved number of families, making it medium and high density development.

 

 

 

"Where we approved for five families, somebody went and changed it to eight. And where we approved for eight, somebody went and forged for sixteen families. 

 

 

 

"This is a clear case of forgery and falsification of information , because the approved plan that we granted have been changed.

 

 

 

"That's why we have to come and stop the work at the site, by covering whatever they have done there until we complete our investigation of who is the author of this illegality."

 

 

 

Commenting on how the authorities got to know about the situation, Galadima explains: " It was during our site visit, we came here last week, and we quested for approval. So immediately, we saw the approval , it didn't coincide with what we have approved, and it's not showing that it is having my signature."

 

 

 

The Director therefore urged people seeking building approvals to not go through quacks, but visit its office for any dealings of such nature. 

 

 

 

"We have simplified the process of granting building plan approval.

 

So, all you need to do is  to submit the right drawing with the plot number.

 

 

 

"And once you do that,  we are giving you assurance that you can get within one month or one and half month," he affirmed.
