Covid-19: FG kicks off school feeding programme in FCT
The Federal Government has kicked off implementation of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, NHGSFP, during the nationwide lockdown to combat the covid-19 pandemic.
The programme which will feed vulnerable pupils at home, while the lockdown is in place, kicked off on Tuesday in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, with the final inspection of food items to be distributed to 29,609 households within the FCT by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq.
According to the minister, her ministry has all the information it requires to ensure that the "take home rations," THR, reach the targeted beneficiaries in primary 1 to 3 who are already on the program.
"we have the list of beneficiaries we know where the households reside, we are going to ensure it reaches the pupils, " she said.
The minister added that the exercise will be replicated across the federation where the programme is ongoing .
Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs on Home Grown Feeding Programme, Aisha Digil, said parents and care givers who have received their voucher will pick uncooked food items.
"We expect the FCT personnel to trace the household of this pupils and distribute the vouchers to the parents so they can have access to the food items at the distribution centres," Digil said.
She further noted that there was an ongoing conversation with partners to include pupils who are not on the programme.
The food package,THR comprises of 5kg of rice, 5kg of beans, 500ML of vegetable oil, 750 ML of palm oil, 500G of salt, 15 pieces of eggs, 140 Grams of tomatoe paste .
