Covid-19 : Ministry distributes palliatives to orphanage homes

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has distributed food items to homes and orphanages in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

 

The gesture is part of ongoing efforts by President Mohammedu Buhari to eliminate economic hardship faced by Nigerians during the covid-19 pandemic.

 

The Minister who was represented by the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs Alh. Musa Bungudu presented the items to beneficiaries at Gwagwalada, said  it was part of the mandate of the ministry to  provide humanitarian interventions that bring relief to citizens both home and abroad.

 

"It is in recognition of the mandate that we are here even though the welfare of orphanages rests with and is a core mandate of the Ministry of Woman Affairs.

 

"Covid-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented humanitarian, economic and health crisis and we need all hands on deck to help our vulnerable population," Farouq said.

 

The minister further commended efforts of nongovernmental organisations, NGOs, and civil society organisations, CSOs, on their continuous support and guidance to the vulnerable population at this critical time.

 

According to her, the selection of homes and orphanages benefiting from the palliatives was done in consultation with homes, NGOs and CSOs, adding that they identified 25 orphanages that would be impacted by the intervention.

 

The minister disclosed that 500 bags of rice and other food items would be distributed  to Anawim Homes, Poorest of the Poor, Gwagwalada; Holy Family Sisters of the Needy; Halal Children, Lugbe; Al-Ansar Home, Kuje and St Mary’s Home for Orphans, Gwagwalada, among others.
