Rumbles in FCDA as Executive Secretary sit-tight
Trouble is gradually brewing among directors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration over an alleged attempt by the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Engr. Adamu Ismaila, to perpetuate himself in office after the expiration of his five years tenure,
The Abuja Inquirer can authoritatively report that Ismaila’s tenure expired four months ago but has refused to vacate office, rather he has intensified lobby of how to become the Chief of Staff to the new FCT minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello, a development that has raised serious concern among senior directors in the service.
Ismaila, it will be recalled served in similar position to Dr. Aliyu Modibbo as minister and was later appointed as the Executive Secretary of FCDA in 2010 after the controversial exit of Engr. Sani Alhassan during the first tenure of Sen. Bala Mohammed as minister.
Our correspondent further learnt that the sit-tight Executive Secretary has started lobbying for the juicy position of Chief of Staff upon the appointment of his kinsman as minister.
Directors in the FCDA who spoke to The Abuja Inquirer on condition of anonymity are of the view that the appointment of Engr. Ismaila as Chief of Staff on the basis of tribalism will spell crises for the FCT Administration going by his air of arrogance and many shady deals under his watch.
"This is a man known for highhandedness among his colleagues. This is a man who insults senior directors publicly and in the presence of junior officers. This is a man whose air of arrogance is a repellent to other directors.
“We understand that this same man is gunning for the position of Chief of Staff to FCT minister. He should ask himself what he forgot in that office. He should equally ask himself what he achieved during the tenure of Dr. Aliyu Modibbo as FCT minister. The minister should not make the mistake of appointing him as Chief of Staff on the basis of ethnicity," the source warned.
The source also accused the outgoing Executive Secretary of sitting on the promotion of staff of FCDA for the past five years, even as the source tasked the new FCT minister to carry out an independent investigation into the activities of the authority under Ismaila as Executive Secretary.
According to him, "this man has sat on the promotion of staff for the past five years. It was just last week they conducted an inconclusive promotion interview for the staff. As a matter of fact, he is a man who does not believe in the career progression of others."
