Covid-19: FCTA commends mosques for protocol compliance
The FCT Ministerial Enforcement Task Force on COVID-19 has scored the Muslim community high for the level of compliance to safety protocols in mosques across the city center.
The head, publicity and enlightenment of the taskforce, Comrade Ikharo Attah, who gave the commendation shortly after monitoring jummat prayers at some mosques at Wuse, Utako and Maitama districts, said the compliance level is encouraging.
Ikharo said, “The usage of facemasks, sanitizers and hand washing points in the mosques visited are quite encouraging. The Imams and Ulamas have put in place measures to ensure compliance from the entry points.”
While also commending most mosques for shortening their sermon and prayer times to prevent people from staying long in the places of worship, Ihkaro urge Imams to always ensure that the congregants adhered strictly to physical distancing during prayers.
He however hinted that, "The only mosque we were not encouraged with is the Uthman Bin Alfa mosque, Wuse 11 which is located opposite Banex plaza. Though worshippers who entered the premises wear facemasks, there was no infrared thermometer for temperature check, no hand washing points and no sanitizers at the entry points into the mosque."
The journalist turned enforcer, therefore warned secretary of the mosque to ensure that all anomalies are corrected before the evening prayers.
Meanwhile, at the Ansarul Islam National Mosque at Utako district, the team also frowned at the fact that security men at gate enforcing compliance with the covid-19 protocols were not wearing facemasks.
The enforcement team also inspected compliance at the An-nur Mosque, Wuse 11 and the Ansar Udeen Islamic mosque Maitama.
Facemasks vendors were spotted making brisk business at the various mosques visited as most worshippers who were denied entry for not coming with their facemasks had no option but to patronize them.
