Bobboyi harps on importance of girl-child education
The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi has stressed the importance of girls’ education to national development.
Bobboyi stated this over the weekend while commissioning a girl-child community centre in Gafia Village, in Kaita Local Government of Katsina State.
“Without education of the girl-child we can’t change our society; we should allow them to finish their secondary school education before marrying them up,” he said.
He also clarified that he was not against girls getting married but that parents should allow them to continue the search for knowledge even after marriage.
The UBEC boss expressed the commission’s happiness with the Kastina state government over its numerous policies of promoting basic education especially among girls.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Kastina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, identified illiteracy and unemployment as major threats to the society.
Yakubu said the Kastina State Government was prepared to work with UBEC for the girl-child to have access to proper education.
He commended UBEC and Senator Saddique Yar adua for their role in initiating the project in the state.
The community centre which was commissioned has 40 sets of pupils’ furniture, 10 computers, 4 teachers furnitures,1 coordinator furniture, solar power with batteries inverter and panels among others’
