NURTW launches ’Drive to arrive’ December campaign in Abuja

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW FCT Chapter, has launched ‘Drive to arrive’ December campaign.

Chairman of the chapter, Prince Isah Dahiru, has urged motorists to maintain best road practices at all times especially during the festive period.

Dahiru, who spoke through the union's financial secretary, Alahaji Bashir Bello at the union's secretariat in Kubwa, said, "we urge motorists to drive safely this festive period always bearing in mind that their lives and that of the commuters are precious .

“They should also remember that there are loved ones who depend on then for their livelihood.

“We urge motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and performance enhancing drugs.

"Motorists should make sure their vehicles are in perfect order before embarking on any journey, they should avoid overloading their vehicles, and maintain specified speed limit. They should also make the use of seat belts paramount, before embarking on any journey.”

On the issue of miscreants who parade themselves as union members, the chairman said, “let me make it clear that the only people recognized as our members are those that put on the green and white shirts and caps, and they are seen only in our authorized motor parks.

“Any other person, including those that wear aprons with "taskforce" inscriptions, are not our members and we have been doing our best to eliminate them from FCT roads.”

He urged motorists and commuters to patronize designated parks so as to minimize touting risks
