FCTA partners Shemomal on affordable housing

As part of efforts to address the problem of housing, Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has revealed that the administration will partner with Shemomal Nigeria Limited for affordable housing for staff.

Head of Administration and Finance, FCT Water Board, Mrs. Joy Okoro, gave this indication during an interactive session with staff of agencies and departments in the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The immediate past deputy director, staff welfare who spoke on behalf of the administration, expressed confidence in the capacity of the developer (Shemomal) to deliver quality and affordable houses to the staff, advising them to key into the scheme so that they would not retire without a roof over their heads.

She added that she was particularly impressed and convinced of Shemomal’s capabilities, having toured their sites and offices and seen what they have on ground, in terms of materials and equipment.

Okoro who regretted the bitter past experiences many staff had with developers and housing schemes said: “In the past, we heard so much gospel about getting houses for staff, but in the end, nothing came out of it, so when Shemomal came, it took time before I finally decided to first of all, find out what they have on sites.

“I was very impressed when I went to their sites and office, and that was what caused me to put up a file and I keyed in and I want you to also key in immediately”.

Business Development Consultant of the company, Ambassador Bukar Al-Amin, who revealed during an interview with journalists that his organization has more than 81 hectares in Kubwa and 45 hectares in Life Camp added that it has capacity to build over 20,000 houses of different types for staff and others.

According to him, staff would require to pay 10 percent equity contribution on any of the house type chosen, which are studio apartment, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom flats, from N3.5 to 10.5 million.

When asked whether the scheme was only for the civil servants, Al-Amin explained that the company is to serve all Nigerians saying, “any other Nigerian can obtain the loans and come into the scheme, and we have other projects too, depending on what you want and what you have.”
