Tax-payers invest N1bn on agric inputs for refugees, migrants, returnees

Nigerians have invested about N1bn for agricultural purposes, towards the empowerment of refugees, migrants and returnees.

The move is to ensure that these Nigerians are able to meet their basic needs and livelihood in spite of their displaced conditions due to natural disaster or conflicts.

The expenditure, which were separately borne by Nigerian tax payers in different years recorded the highest single year investment of N814,321,573 in 2018.

Further efforts to empower the refugees, migrants and returnees had budgetary provisions in the last four years, specially designed for this purpose, its cumulative figure, tallied at N896,312,048.

The 2022 budget has earmarked another N100m for provision of agric inputs and implements for these Nigerians.

The new figure would expectedly bolster the administration’s efforts to equip internally displaced persons.

The budget details read as follows for the last four years, in 2021, it was recorded as “ERGP5106100, Provision in of Agriculture Inputs and Implements for Refugees, Migrant and Returnees N40,000,000”

For 2020 it reflected in the appropriation Act as amended, as “ERGP5106100, Provision in of Agriculture Inputs and Implements for Refugees, Migrant and Returnees N33,250,000”

“ERGP5106100, Provision of Agriculture Inputs and Implements for Refugees, Migrant and Returnees N8,740,475, being the lowest budgetary provision after highest single donation of over N800m.”

The details of these expenditures are captured by the National Refugee Commission that has the mandate of managing these displaced human resource and asset of the nation.
