Echono assumes duty at TETFund, pledges to sustain legacy of research

The new Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Arc Sonny Echono, as assumed duty with a pledge to sustain and build on the legacy of research left by his predecessor, Prof Suleiman Bogoro.

Echono, who spoke at a handover ceremony at the fund’s headquarters in Abuja, said his administration would focus on curriculum delivery in schools as that would make Nigerian graduates not only employable but also creators of wealth.

The TETFund Boss also stressed that he would focus on Information and Communication Technology, ICT, to improve curriculum development with renewed focus on human capital development and infrastructure.

According to him, there is no doubt that over the years, TETFund has established itself as a leading international agency in the country even as he promised to build on the achievements made by the agency.

He said under his administration, TETFund will lead the plan to ensure that Nigeria remains relevant and competitive in the national and global stage.

Earlier, the outgoing Executive Secretary of the Fund, Bogoro, expressed happiness that at the end of his stewardship at TETFund, he has packaged handover notes, which are a summary of those things done during his tenure.

“As much as we can, through the department and units, we have been able to do those things that beneficiary institutions expect of us as provided by law. We tried to maintain fidelity of the law of TETFund,” he said.

Speaking further about his achievements, he said during his tenure, the board of trustees of TETFund increased the national research fund from N5 billion to N8.5 billion, adding that the TETFund has funded and improved the content component of beneficiary institutions across the country.

He also disclosed that the international science granting council has identified TETFund as an institution that can house its funds for science granting in Nigeria.

Bogoro, therefore, presented his handover note which included the summary of his achievements as the head of the fund
