The CEO, Miss Amnesty Nigeria, Ms. Tracy Mcwary, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a substantive coordinator for the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
Mcwary in a statement in Abuja, Friday, said the appointment of a substantive coordinator will give the programme firm footing and a clear direction to achieve more.
According to her, President Buhari should confirm the Acting Coordinator, Col. Milland Dikio, as the substantive coordinator to enable him consolidate on the achievements so far recorded and stabilize the programme.
“Today there’s transformative reforms which has effectively repositioned the program and brought about unprecedented peace and stability in the Niger Delta region following the prompt payment of stipends of ex-agitators and other notable empowerment programmes such as the TEM (Train, Empower and Mentor) scheme.
“Formation of cooperatives, business clusters, vocational and allied training programmes such as the Bayelsa multi-billion naira cassava factory to train and employ PAP trainees which was recently approved.”
She further listed the training on the Nirsal Loan which is to support the SME’s with soft loans to run their businesses.
“The Presidential Amnesty programme is committed to ensuring the verifiable empowerment of the ex-agitators in all ramifications to fulfil the mandate and purpose of the programme.”
