I have no special candidate, but agenda – Obasanjo

Barely five days after been seen with Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that he has no preferred candidate among those contesting the 2023 presidential election, rather a national agenda.

Speaking in Minna, Niger state on Sunday when he paid former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar a visit, Obasanjo said, “I don’t have a special candidate, I have a national agenda.”

The former President also said he was in Minna to visit the former Head of State who had been indisposed.

“I came to see my brother who has been a little indisposed. I had plans to visit him when he was still in London, but the day I arrived London was the day he returned home.

“So that is why I decided to come and see him at home. He is very special so I had to come.

He also said that “if there is anyone who is indisposed, I will visit and I am still strong.”

However, it is an open secret that Obasanjo is the one pushing the Obi agenda and is reported to have influenced the emergence of Datti Ahmed as the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

At the London meeting, Obasanjo is reputed to have gone along with Mr. Obi to meet with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, among others.

While details of the meeting still remain sketchy, Wike gave insight that it was aimed at a better Nigeria.

“Whatever we are talking about, is for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not parochial and tied to one person or group of persons.

“We believe that with what is going on, it will be for the interest of Nigerians at the end of the day,” Wike said.
