Revenue leakage: Again, AMAC Task Force nabs 10 suspected illegal revenue collectors

The Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Taskforce on Revenue Monitoring and Enforcement has arrested 10 suspected illegal revenue collectors at Garki Area 11 traffic junction.

The suspects were arrested by a team of the taskforce, comprising the Nigeria Police, DSS and other paramilitary agencies when they stormed the area.

Abuja Inquirer Newspaper reported that the taskforce team in April 2023 arrested 13 illegal revenue collectors during a sting operation in different locations in the area council.

Senior Special Assistant Media and Public Affairs to AMAC Chairman, Kingsley Madaki in a statement said, “It was observed that on sighting the task force team, the suspects took to their heels, abandoning their materials, which included, mobile advertisement permits, illegal receipts and papers, tablets, pack of marijuana and tubes of dangerous substances.”

Chairman of the taskforce, Comrade Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, told newsmen that the exercise became imperative to reduce the activities of illegal tax collectors in the area council.

Yunusa disclosed that the executive of AMAC, Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has directed the taskforce to work under the guidance of the Police, DSS and other security agencies to dislodge the activities of suspected fraudsters on AMAC streets.

According to him, “You know that AMAC chairman had worked with several Police Commissioners on the issue and other security agencies. So, we cleared the area and apprehended them. We are moving them straight to mobile court for prosecution.

We won’t allow anyone to sabotage this administration and our operations will continue. Since the inauguration of this Taskforce, the Council chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, made it clear that anyone found collecting AMAC revenue illegally will be arrested and prosecuted. Therefore, there is no room illegal task collectors in AMAC any longer.”
