A former Nigerian Ambassador to Austria, Hon.Jerry Ugokwe, has noted that he will transform the economy of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, if here were the Minister of the FCT.
Hon. Jerry Ugokwe who campaigned across the country with the President Elect, former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2023 Presidential Elections has opined that he will not wait for the Federal Government’s allocation in increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the development of the FCT.
He made this known while speaking with Journalists over the weekend in Abuja, where he asked “How much was Lagos making when Bola Tinubu became governor of Lagos State and what he has transformed Lagos to today? If I was Minister of FCT for example. I will not need federal government allocation, because there are thousands of properties in Abuja and nobody lives there, we will tax the houses.”
“What I can do in Abuja is to map the entire place so you can know every house that is in Abuja, every single house, with the aid of technology I will be watching it on my TV in the office.
If you say where you, I will press a button and tell you exactly where it’s located. And every of those houses must pay government tax. If you do not pay it government will give you one year, after one year we go to court to get an order to sell the house.
Ugokwe who also was a former member of the House of Representatives said he is convinced that the President-elect would assemble the right people to work with him to ensure he achieves his dream for a better Nigeria
He said that Asiwaju is somebody who knows how to identify those with potentials to lead and can put together the right minds, because according to him that is what Nigeria needs now, insisting that It needs somebody who can bring the right brains, the best brains, which we have in every state of Nigeria in abundance.
“I am talking about the proper Federal Executive Council of Nigeria, which you pick from every state.
You mentor people. These are people you brought and say look you people are more intelligent than myself, works and give the nation your best, and he will just look around to make sure that they are doing it right. That is what the President of Nigeria needs. Because as a president, you cannot be in many places at the same time and how many things will you think at a time. Ugokwe queried.
He said he wants his children to be told the story of the good works their father did for the nation.
