Failed politicians behind planned protests – Okocha

Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has alleged that failed politicians were behind the planned protests against the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led- administration.

Okocha disclosed this during a press conference on Tuesday, in Abuja, where he addressed various issues affecting the party and the nation.

He said, “The truth be told, let us face reality here. What is the reason for the planned protest? The reason for the planned protest, as I heard, is that there is hunger in the land. Is President Tinubu the architect of hunger in the land?” Okocha stated

He further stated, “The intention and motive is sinister. And they know themselves. The Presidential spokesperson discussed this matter. And every day I watch on television that these slangs are from patriotic Nigerians. What is the essence and the result? Would there be confrontation? Between the protesters and security agencies? Or the protesters against another group protesting for Mr. President?”

Okocha warned that the planned protests could lead to devastating consequences and urged Nigerians to be cautious and not allow themselves to be used by failed politicians to achieve their selfish goals.

“The resultant effect of that on Nigerians will be most devastating. And of course, nobody knows who will be involved. It could be the man who is leading the team. Or whose house is burnt,” Okocha said.

He stated, “Why are we not demonstrating and protesting against our governors? In my time as the chief of staff, we had an allocation to the tune of 6.6 billion monthly. That was the maximum we got. But Rivers State today is coasting home to more than 28 billion from federal allocation. So, what happens? The removal of fuel subsidy brought in money to the system. And the President didn’t put the money in his pocket. He is giving out.”

He also questioned the motives of those behind the protest, saying, “Who is a good soldier? A great soldier is not the man who went to war with others and lost all of them and didn’t win a war. The greatest soldier is a man who went to war, got victory with minimal damage. It didn’t work in Kenya, and Sudan. And this country is even smaller compared to Nigeria.”

Okocha emphasized that the APC government is working hard to address the nation’s challenges and urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu.

He also expressed confidence in the APC’s leadership in Rivers State, stating that the party has become a beehive of activities since he took over as chairman.
