The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has arraigned Oseni Adeolu Olayinka, a staff member of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, for alleged money laundering.
Olayinka was brought before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Thursday, facing a three-count charge.
According to ICPC, the accused fraudulently added his wife and son to the ministry’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS and collected salaries on their behalf between 2023 and 2024.
One of the charges stated that he received over N2.8 million in his wife’s bank account, an amount suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
Olayinka pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer, Paul Asimiakeokha, requested bail on lenient terms. The prosecution did not object.
Justice Egwuatu granted him bail in the sum of N5 million, with a surety who must be a civil servant of at least grade level 12 and own verified property in Abuja.
The trial is set to begin on April 29, 2025.
