Okowa’s defection: I’ve been Vindicated says Wike

Former Governor of Delta State and 2023 Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for openly declaring support for President Bola Tinubu.

According to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Okowa’s recent defection is a vindication of the position he took to support Tinubu’s candidacy in the 2023 presidential election.

Okowa, alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and other PDP stalwarts in the state, on Wednesday, decamped to the All Progressives Congress, collapsing the entire PDP structures in the state to the APC.

Wike, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the move as a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s leadership.

“It is another endorsement of the president’s good governance and commitment to the development of the country,” the FCT Minister said.

He urged other Nigerians who are yet to take a stand to rally behind the President in the interest of national unity and development.

“I commend Dr Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for this heart-warming decision, which must have been informed by good governance and commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the oneness and development of Nigeria.

“That is what I have always told people to come out and say, not when they have problems and begin to run up and down.

“They have come out at the right time to show support for the President so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit more from the government, and I commend them.

“I am particularly happy that what I saw before the 2023 presidential election, others are now seeing and are joining the Renewed Hope train,” the Minister said
