The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the FCT, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Yenche, has said the defection of the incumbent chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, is a big blow, but assured that the PDP will take back the council in the forthcoming council polls in the territory.
The area councils’ election has been fixed for February 21, 2026.
Yenche, who spoke at the FCT party secretariat on Thursday, while reacting to the defection of Maikalangu to the ruling APC, said PDP will also win in all the 12 wards of the council.
He said Maikalangu was only an entity in the PDP before leaving, assuring that even after his exit, the party still remains intact and will continue to wax stronger in AMAC.
He said the PDP has been able to present 12 councillorship aspirants in all the 12 political wards through consensus, adding that the party is also working towards a consensus chairmanship candidate.
