Flooding: FCT agency closes road, warns against driving into flooded roads

By Sarah NEGEDU

The FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, has barricaded the Ring Road 2 Interchange, Galadimawa.

Speaking at the closure of the road, the acting Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, explained that it was part of measures to mitigate the impact of flooding this rainy season.

Nkechi Isa, Head, Public Affairs in a statement quoted Abdulrahman as saying that, “the water level on this slip road is building up and this place will be flooded.

“The closure of this road is part of preparedness and mitigation with the aim to save lives and property.”

He appealed to residents of the FCT for patience and to seek alternative routes.

According to the FEMD boss, the slip road should have been closed to vehicular movement in June, but the Department has been monitoring the water level in the territory.

He further appealed to residents not to drive into a pool of water as it was ill-advised.

Engr Abdulrahman urged residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of a disaster.
Recall that heavy floods on the slip road which connects Goodluck Jonathan Expressway with Ring Road 2 at Galadimawa in 2019 claimed the life of Director of Finance FCT
High Court, Mr Tony Okecheme.
