The All Progressives Congress, APC, has commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the forthcoming National Assembly by-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025.
The party made the announcement on Monday, July 8, following the declaration of vacant seats by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The vacancies span two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state assembly seats across 12 states.
According to the APC’s schedule released by the National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, the sale of forms will run from Monday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 10. Aspirants are expected to undergo screening on Thursday, July 11, while appeals from the screening will be heard on Friday, July 12. The party primaries are slated for Saturday, July 13, with appeals scheduled for Sunday, July 14.
The cost of nomination and expression of interest forms has been fixed at ₦20 million for Senate aspirants and ₦10 million for those seeking seats in the House of Representatives. Aspirants vying for State House of Assembly seats will pay ₦2 million. In line with the APC’s inclusion policy, women, youths aged 25–40, and persons with disabilities, PWDs, are eligible for a 50% discount on the nomination forms, although they are required to pay the full amount for the expression of interest forms.
Meanwhile, some aspirants have already begun picking up their forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
One of the early entrants is Hon. Oscar Agedo, a former local government chairman who is contesting for the House of Representatives seat for Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo State. The seat became vacant following the emergence of Dennis Idahosa as Deputy Governor. Agedo, while addressing journalists after collecting his forms, emphasized his commitment to youth empowerment, educational development, and infrastructural growth. He called on the party leadership to ensure a transparent and credible primary process.
Another aspirant, Comrade Yakubu Waziri, who is seeking to represent Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, also obtained his forms on Monday. Waziri expressed satisfaction with the improved security situation in Southern Kaduna, which he attributed to the efforts of Governor Uba Sani’s administration. He pledged to consolidate on these gains and provide quality representation if elected.
The APC reiterated its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent selection process. Party officials have encouraged all aspirants to adhere strictly to the guidelines and timelines as outlined in the schedule.
As political activities intensify ahead of the by-elections, the party’s readiness to field strong candidates is seen as a crucial step in maintaining its legislative strength across affected constituencies.
