A 55-year-old man identified as Musa Shaibu has died after he was knocked down by a Volkswagen bus along the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway in Abuja.
The incident occurred Tuesday near the Villa Bridge when the bus, said to belong to Quest Capital Company, reportedly suffered a brake failure. The driver lost control and rammed into the pedestrian from behind as he walked along the expressway.
The FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, said its Search and Rescue team evacuated the victim to Asokoro General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
In a statement signed by FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, the victim was identified as a native of Idah in Kogi State.
Although his immediate family resides in Kaduna State, emergency responders were able to reach a cousin in Abuja through his mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
