Tinubu names Prof. Adamu Acting Vice-Chancellor of UniAbuja

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Prof Mathew Adamu as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja for a three-month term, effective Monday, August 11, 2025.

The appointment, conveyed in an August 8 letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, follows the completion of the tenure of Prof. Patricia Manko Lar, who served in an acting capacity since February.

A distinguished veterinary scholar, Prof. Adamu obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and MSc in 2006 from the University of Maiduguri, before earning a PhD in Veterinary Surgery from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2012.

Elevated to full professor in 2019, he specialises in Veterinary Parasitology, Entomology, and Helminthology, and is a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria.

With 27 years of professional experience, Adamu’s career spans teaching, research, extension services, and leadership roles.

He previously lectured at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, now Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, where he rose to dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

He has also served as Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, chaired key university committees, and acted twice as vice-chancellor during transitional periods.

A prolific researcher with over 50 scholarly publications, a South African patent, and multiple international collaborations, Adamu has contributed to curriculum development, accreditation exercises, and professional bodies, including his current role as President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.
