The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring democratic governance in Rivers State following the lifting of the emergency rule imposed on the state.
Wike, in a press statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the President’s decision once again showed his commitment to peace and the sustenance of democracy in the country.
According to the statement, Wike described Tinubu’s intervention as timely and proactive, stressing that it not only saved Rivers State but also renewed the confidence of its people in his leadership.
The minister also praised residents of the state for their continued faith in the President, urging them to sustain their support as he works to return Nigeria to the path of progress and development.
Wike further appealed to political stakeholders to put aside their differences and work in unity for the collective interest of the state and its people.
He warned against acts capable of disrupting peace in Rivers, cautioning what he called “fifth columnists” who thrive in crisis to steer clear.
The statement also quoted the minister as saying that, “From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress and development.”
