65th Independence: FG scraps parade, other events to continue

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade, which was scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence on Wednesday, October 1.

The government said the cancellation does not diminish the significance of this milestone. All other programs planned for the Independence Anniversary will continue as scheduled.

In a statement, the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, said the government regrets any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

He also expressed appreciation to Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding, support, and cooperation.

Imohiosen urged Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in making Nigeria a greater nation.

The parade, usually held at Eagle Square in Abuja, is a formal ceremony featuring military formations, students, and cultural displays. It includes flag-raising, speeches, and showcases Nigeria’s diverse traditions.
