Police confirm The Abuja Inquirer story on new CP for FCT

The FCT Police Command has announced that CP Dantawaye Miller has officially assumed duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Recall The Abuja Inquirer had reported that the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had removed CP Ajao Saka Adewale over widespread outrage of the handling of the case involving late Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, who was killed during a robbery in Katampe, Abuja.
Her death sparked calls for accountability and a review of security measures in the nation’s capital.
In a statement on Friday, in Abuja, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the appointment.
CP Miller assumes office amid heightened expectations from journalists, civil society groups, and residents for improved security and proactive policing.
He takes over from CP Ajao S. Adewale, who has been redeployed to another strategic assignment by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Born on October 15, 1971, into the family of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye in Afogo, Kaduna State, CP Miller brings over two decades of experience to his new role. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000, CP Miller has served in multiple key positions, including Divisional Crime Officer in Yenagoa, Escort Commander to a former Vice President and President, Chief Security Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum, and Commissioner of Police for Kogi State. He has also held strategic roles in operations, intelligence, and information technology across several states.
A seasoned officer with extensive local and international training—including courses in counter-terrorism, leadership, and VVIP protection—CP Miller is known for his focus on innovation, community policing, and public safety. He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and an active member of Rotary International.
As he assumes leadership of the FCT Police Command, CP Miller pledged to strengthen community-police partnerships and enhance the security framework across the nation’s capital. Residents are urged to support the police in maintaining peace and security.
