Infrastructure: Wike vows to change narrative in FCT

By Sarah NEGEDU

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday declared that his administration would change the narrative about governance by delivering visible and measurable results in the FCT.

Wike, who spoke during the inauguration of the Wuye Engineering Infrastructure Project in Abuja, said Tinubu’s performance had “shamed the opposition,” insisting that the wave of completed projects across the FCT was a clear proof of purposeful leadership.

Although he did not mention names, Wike condemned the old narrative of abandoning projects and declaring, “I will change the narratives. We will show the opposition. Tell them to come and see that the FCT is working,” he declared, drawing applause from the crowd.

He said many of the projects now being inaugurated were abandoned since 2009 due to lack of funding, but the Tinubu administration had revived them through decisive interventions.

According to him, the completion of the Wuye District infrastructure marked another milestone in the ongoing effort to open up more residential and commercial areas within the city.

“When this administration came in, the President took immediate steps to revive what had been neglected. Within one year, major projects were completed, including the interchange that once caused traffic chaos in this area,” Wike stated.

He said the transformation currently witnessed across Abuja was not a coincidence but the outcome of deliberate planning and political will. “This is leadership that is committed, leadership that is changing lives,” he said.

Wike explained that the Tinubu administration’s focus on infrastructure renewal across the city and satellite towns thereby restoring public confidence in governance. “My problem in this country is that everything must be politics. Everybody who knows kuje before, Go take a look now. You will see that the difference is what? Clear. Asiwaju has changed the entire landscape of our city. Not just in the city, but also in the satellite town.

He also disclosed that the FCT Administration would soon embark on another 20-day commissioning phase focusing on the education sector to demonstrate the government’s achievements in schools and learning facilities across the territory.

“Our work is not only about roads and infrastructure; it also extends to education. For twenty more days, we will show Nigerians what we have done in that sector, and it will surprise many,” he said.

The minister commended FCTA staff, Area Council chairmen, and councillors for their support, saying the success recorded so far was the outcome of teamwork and political stability under President Tinubu.
